When you want to decommission (i.e. put permanently out of use) a structure, both foam and concrete are highly versatile materials that you can use to fill, stabilise and seal various types of structures without the need for extensive excavation.
Here are some examples of foam filling applications where you can use foam and concrete:
-
Pipes, tunnels and sewers
You can use both foam and concrete to navigate complex geometries, so they’re ideal if you need to stabilise or seal pipework that has become outdated or damaged.
Both foam and concrete can fill disused culverts and pipelines and stop water ingress and ground collapse. So they’re used extensively in civil engineering projects to fill empty space and underground shafts, as well as the gap between an old, worn sewer main and a newly inserted lining pipe.
-
Voids and cavities
You can pump fillers into hidden cavities deep underground to stop sinkholes from forming and to avoid subsidence, for example under driveways and foundations. Doing this also provides a good solution for dangerous or collapsing disused mine works.
-
Spaces which would otherwise be hard to reach
Foam and low-density concrete can be sent into tightly confined spaces which standard heavy grout is unable to reach. That includes, for instance, below driveways and roads or cavities in historic buildings or metal roof ribs which regular insulation or mortar can’t fill.
What’s more, both materials expand to provide a thorough seal for wall openings in residential and commercial buildings, thus avoiding drafts and stopping pests from getting in.
-
Tanks and vessels
Foam and concrete are routinely used to safely decommission commercial and domestic petrol, diesel and oil tanks, as well as above and underground storage containers, without causing damage to any nearby structures. Filling these containers in where they are, rather than removing them, is frequently safer and more cost-effective than getting rid of them completely.
LV Fuel Services: not just for oil tanks
At LV Fuel Services, we can safely purge and seal redundant or disused service pipes and fill in inactive ones with inert expanding foam or concrete.
Our services encompass a wide range of applications, from domestic and commercial fuel tank decommissioning to void filling, pipeline abandonment, sinkhole remediation, mine shaft capping, and contaminated land work.
