Fuel and Oil Tank Foam or Concrete Filling

Over time, your home’s or commercial site’s fuel tank can become heavily worn before reaching the end of its usable life. You might also decide to switch from an oil-based heating system to a different, more environmentally friendly alternative.

Both of these situations require that your existing fuel tank is decommissioned. As professionals in fuel tank decommissioning and removals, we offer a variety of solutions to ensure your tank can be rendered safe.

If it’s not possible to clean and physically remove your oil tank, our experienced team can fill it using concrete and/or RG22 foam. This means that your old, unused oil tank will be made safe and inert, without any remaining traces of flammable gases or explosive vapour.

As professionals in domestic oil tanks, we’re available when you need us for tank filling, removal and other services.

When Should You Concrete or Foam Fill Your Fuel Tank?

When your fuel tank becomes too old to use, or when you decide to switch from oil to a different fuel source, there are several options available.

The most common option is to have your home or commercial property’s fuel tank cleaned and removed. If you plan to continue using fuel oil as your heating system’s fuel source, the old tank is typically replaced with a new one, giving you uninterrupted heating and improved reliability.

If you no longer need an oil tank, your old oil tank can be removed, disassembled and recycled, with its materials used to produce new products. We offer this via our domestic and commercial fuel tank removal services.

However, not all domestic oil tanks can be safely removed. If your tank is located in an area that is difficult to access, or is not cost-effective to be worth removing, our experienced team can fill it using concrete and/or RG22 foam to remove any safety hazards.

This allows you to easily switch from oil-based heating to another system, all without the costs or inconvenience of having your existing fuel tank completely removed.

Our Concrete and Foam Filling Process

We offer both concrete and foam filling options for unused fuel tanks. Each option offers its own range of advantages.

Typically, we recommend using RG22 foam for fuel tank foam filling. This type of foam helps to render your fuel tank inert. RG22 foam is designed to absorb hydrocarbons that are left inside the tank, helping to improve safety and reduce the risk of hazardous material emissions.

Using RG22 also provides additional flexibility. If you decide to reuse your fuel tank in the future, the RG22 foam can be removed and the tank can be cleaned and put back into use.

It’s also possible to fill your unused fuel tank with concrete. After concrete filling, the tank will be forever rendered inoperable, meaning it can’t be used again. Concrete is used as a permanent filling option for older commercial and domestic fuel tanks that will stay in the ground.
